by Sydnie Eller, Wyoming FFA Reporter
From a very young age, Ashley Spatz knew her love for agriculture and FFA was strong. Growing up on a ranch that raised breeding sheep and market lambs, along with having a father as an ag teacher, most could have guessed where her future was leading. Her life was surrounded by FFA so much that on the way back from a speech contest at age five, Spatz was able to recite the first paragraph of the FFA Creed.
Even though she’s always tried to live her life by the standards presented through FFA and the agriculture industry, it wasn’t until the final session of National Convention her freshman year of college that Spatz decided teaching ag was what she wanted to do. The next year she served as the Wyoming FFA State Reporter, and headed towards a career teaching ag. Now, she is beginning her first year of teaching in Basin with the Paintrock FFA Chapter.
In the classroom, Spatz is looking forward to her animal science class most and helping her chapter with parliamentary procedures- which is what she loves most. When asked what her career highlight has been she easily responded “coaching parli pro teams in the past and being able to teach what I love doing. Seeing students succeed in that is what I enjoy most.”
Along with working with her new students, Spatz is most looking forward to the Wyoming FFA State Convention in April, for the reason that it’s where chapters get to “strut their stuff” and see the hard work they’ve put in all year pay off. She has a great group of kids, and gives much thanks to their previous ag teacher.
We’re always excited to welcome new faces- or familiar faces in new positions- to the Wyoming FFA, and we can’t wait to see what great things Ashely Spatz does this year!
