Middle School Opportunities

Middle school FFA members in Wyoming have more opportunities than most people realize—from hands-on competitions to leadership conferences and speaking events. Below is a breakdown of what’s available, when it happens, and how students qualify.

In Wyoming, middle school or junior high divisions will be considered 6-8th grade unless otherwise noted.

Career and Leadershp Development Events

What’s Different from High School: Middle school will complete a lesson plan and delivery. Top 6 participants will make the final round and compete in 2 practicums at the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
When & Where: First round is digital. Final round is held at the Wyoming FFA Convention.

Qualify for National Convention?: No

What’s Different from High School: This contest is a separate event from the
Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems event.
When & Where: Held during the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
Rules: Reference Middle School Agricultural Mechanics Handbook.
Qualify for National Convention?: No

Who’s Eligible: This contest is only open to members in 6-9th grade. You must qualify for the state convention through the semi-final round held prior to state convention.
When & Where: Held during the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
Rules: Wyoming FFA Conduct of Chapter Meetings Handbook.
Qualify for National Convention?: Yes. The state champion will qualify for the National FFA Creed competition.

Who’s Eligible: This contest is only open to members in 6-9th grade. You must qualify for the state convention through local, district, and regional levels.
When & Where: Held during the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
Rules: Wyoming FFA Creed Speaking LDE Handbook.
Qualify for National Convention?: Yes. The state champion will qualify for the National FFA Creed competition.

What’s Different from High School: No change in contest components from high school event, but no reasons are required for middle school competitors

OTHER COMPETITIONS

Who’s Eligible: Members in 7-12 grade are eligible.
When & Where: Held during Wyoming FFA State Convention.

AGRISCIENCE FAIR

Who’s Eligible: members in 7-12 grade are eligible.
When & Where: Held during the Agriscience Fair prior to convention. Top 3 in each division/area are recognized at the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
Rules: Reference the Agriscience Fair Handbook.
Qualify for National Convention?: Yes. The winner in each division/area at state convention will move onto the National FFA competition. See the National FFA Handbook for more information.

CHAPTER AWARDS

Who’s Eligible: Middle school chapters will compete with all chapter applications for ranking of gold, silver, and bronze as well as chapter of the year finalists. Wyoming FFA will recognize an outstanding Middle School Model of Innovation at Wyoming FFA State Convention.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Discovery is designed for members who are new to FFA—or new to seeing what FFA can really offer. This conference focuses on belonging, exploration, and understanding the bigger picture of what it means to be part of an FFA chapter. The conference is open to members from 6th-8th grade.

Middle school chapters can send 2 delegates for committee work and delegate business session during CPC, held in Casper at our fall conference.

Middle school chapters should send 2 delegates for the delegate business session at the Wyoming FFA State Convention.

The FFA Career fair, leadership workshops and tours are open to middle school members at the Wyoming FFA State Convention.
